Community Empowerment Network

At its inception back in 2001, the CEN stood with 87 fellow community empowerment networks that were put in place under Tony Blair’s Labour office. These networks aimed to improve social mobility, reduce inequalities, and modernize public services. Today, the Community Empowerment Network is the last of its kind, a king of the hill within London’s community development initiative set up over two decades ago.

In 2021, I was chosen to help lead CEN's transition into a new era with modernization and fluidity at the core of the undertaking. The initial ask was for communications: a brand refresh, a website overhaul, and the development of a tailored communications and social media strategy. However, it became apparent that my involvement was more holistically required to aid the organization’s growth. Since then, in addition to communications, I have implemented tools such as Monday.com and best practices to streamline the operation: we have implemented a project management system, introduced reporting and accountability protocols, and worked closely with Human Resources to tidy up staff roles and expectations.
